Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (1922, imdb)
Horror, Nightmare, Vampire
Directed by F.W. Murnau

This movie is legendary. Directed by the genius F.W. Murnau and based off of Bram Stokers classic Dracula, starring Max Shreck as Count Orlok.

The count is looking for a new residence, among other things. Hutter, a real estate agent, is dispatched to Transylvania to settle the affair with the count, and while he is away both his wife and his boss are experiencing effects of a malign influence foreboding of things to come.

This movie is nightmarish in the realest sense of the word, it actually plays out as a real nightmare. With senseless rhythm and drive the ghastly story and titular vampire is portrayed in a manner that might just seep straight into the subconcious mind of the viewer. Don’t be someone who goes “ugh it’s OLD yuck” but instead see this milestone horror movie and enjoy a rare masterpiece of the genre.

Do get the new HD 2012 version, available on BluRay. It was restored on behalf of the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung and besides for looking and sounding completely fantastic it contains new material.
